Leicester University approached Live LX to supply the lighting equipment for their 2010 Summer Ball. The event was held in their temporary students union – a hall they have been using for a year, whilst a new venue is being built.
They wanted to create an environment that is different to the usual club nights, which are held in the venue each Wednesday and Friday. To achieve this, Live LX doubled the amount of moving lights over the small stage area in order to create a concert feel.
The crew completely redesigning what was already in use in the venue, which saved on hire costs. Several 8 lite Audience Blinders and a number of Atomic Strobes were added to the rig as a dynamic backdrop for the stage. For this particular event, the front of house areas were decorated with black and white drapes, which provided a nice surface area to colour with deep blues and texture with break up gobos.
Live LX provided crew for the fit up and three lighting operators for the twelve hour event. After a successful night, ending at 7 am, the crew went home to rest before starting the de rig the following day.
The line up included The Sugababes, Radio 1 DJ Greg James and the Ministry Of Sound.
